Guided Black Bear Hunts at LP Ranch

A hands-on hunt focused on finding bears, reading sign, and closing the distance.

Black bear hunting here is built around understanding terrain, food sources, and movement patterns. From oak brush hillsides to dark timber and north-facing slopes, the ranch offers the kind of habitat bears rely on. Natural travel routes, feeding areas, and cover create real opportunities to locate and work mature bears.

Spot and stalk is the foundation. Long hours behind the glass, covering country and watching feeding patterns, then closing distance with terrain and patience. Shot opportunities are earned, whether you’re set up with a rifle or working in tighter with archery gear. Timing, positioning, and staying disciplined all come into play when it matters most.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AN LP RANCH BEAR HUNT

We handle the details so you can focus on the experience.

From day one, your guide is focused on finding bears and reading sign. Glassing at first light, locating bears from a distance, and building a plan based on terrain, food sources, wind, and movement. Mornings are spent behind optics, covering open slopes and transition areas. Midday shifts to repositioning and setting up for evening activity. Afternoons and evenings are about getting into position near feeding areas and travel routes before last light.

Whether you’re hunting with a rifle or archery setup, the approach is tailored to how you want to hunt. Rifle hunts focus on spotting bears in open country, getting set up with a steady rest, and making a clean shot. Archery hunts require more patience, using terrain, cover, and careful movement to close distance and work into effective range.

Accommodations

Hunters will be accommodated in comfortable cabins at The LP Ranch during their stay. Meals will be served in the ranch house dining room in a family or banquet style for breakfast and dinner throughout your visit. Each hunter will also receive a packed lunch for their day out in the field.

What To Wear

Fall Bear season in northwest Colorado can bring a wide range of conditions, from mild early days to cold, snowy weather later in the fall. Temperatures shift throughout the day, with crisp mornings warming up before dropping again in the evening. Layering is key to staying comfortable as conditions change, including wind and possible moisture.

When To Arrive

Please plan to arrive at The LP Ranch at least one day prior to your hunt. This gives our team time to get you settled, go over logistics, and make sure your gear is ready to go. It also allows your body to adjust to the elevation before the hunt begins. A solid night of rest beforehand goes a long way.
