Mule deer hunting here is built around reading country and making the right moves. The transition from high mountain oak brush into low, rolling sage creates ideal habitat for mature bucks. Deer move naturally through these zones, using cover, elevation, and wind to their advantage, giving you real opportunities to glass, plan, and execute.
Spot and stalk is the foundation. Long hours behind the glass, picking apart basins and hillsides, then closing distance with terrain and patience. Shot opportunities are earned, whether you’re set up with a rifle or working in tighter with archery gear. Timing, positioning, and staying disciplined all come into play when it matters most.
From day one, your guide is reading deer and covering country. Glassing at first light, locating bucks from a distance, and building a plan based on terrain, wind, and movement. Mornings are spent behind optics, picking apart basins and transition zones. Midday shifts to repositioning and setting up the next move. Afternoons and evenings are about closing distance and getting into position before last light.
Whether you’re hunting with a rifle or archery setup, the approach is tailored to how you want to hunt. Rifle hunts focus on finding mature bucks, getting set up with a steady rest, and making a clean shot when the opportunity presents. Archery hunts require more patience, using terrain, cover, and careful movement to work inside effective range.
Hunters will be accommodated in comfortable cabins at The LP Ranch during their stay. Meals will be served in the ranch house dining room in a family or banquet style for breakfast and dinner throughout your visit. Each hunter will also receive a packed lunch for their day out in the field.
Mule deer season in northwest Colorado can bring a wide range of conditions, from mild early days to cold, snowy weather later in the fall. Temperatures shift throughout the day, with crisp mornings warming up before dropping again in the evening. Layering is key to staying comfortable as conditions change, including wind and possible moisture.
Please plan to arrive at The LP Ranch at least one day prior to your hunt. This gives our team time to get you settled, go over logistics, and make sure your gear is ready to go. It also allows your body to adjust to the elevation before the hunt begins. A solid night of rest beforehand goes a long way.
All Packages are 5 Day Hunts - $6500.00 USD
Our hunts are built around access, mobility, and experienced guides who know how the game move throughout the season. Hunters spend time on well-managed private ranch acreage while still having the ability to hunt surrounding public land when patterns shift.
